In 2023, I saw a call for entry for Cut Me Up Magazine’s exhibition Eroticism. Candidly, it is not a subject I often consider. I created an assemblage using a pair of blood red stilettos, evoking the erotic: “the thoughts, dreams, anticipation, unruly impulses…. of the erotic landscapes.” I collaged the stilettos and…they were actually quite cute. I could imagine them in the shoe department at Nordstrom’s; not exactly evoking the erotic as I thought they might…hhmmm. I added the flames to make them hotter; the zipper pulls to make them more suggestive; and the black tape, representing black leather straps, to the shoebox stand to make them sexier. Do they now suggest the erotic? Or do they remain “Too Cute To Be Erotic?”
