When my daughter was about 5, she made paper crafts. I had just gotten her (or maybe me) the vintage Tom Thumb cash register. She hadn't yet learned about the value of money, and was just beginning her math education. So she instead decorated the register with her creations. I left them in it for a long time, and now I use that cash register when I sell at pop-up and holiday bazaars. Even though not many people use coins for purchases these days, I use it to remind myself that sales aren't everything. Remembering her use of an item meant for money exchange as a simple decorative toy keeps me humble.
