Walk a Mile explores the pervasive and often unspoken trauma of sexual assault experienced by women in industrial settings. The installation features a series of cement high-heeled pumps, each intricately crafted to reflect different degrees of wholeness. Some remain intact, others are visibly fragmented, and a few are entirely broken.

The use of cement as a medium speaks to the weight survivors carry, a burden that can feel both immobilizing and suffocating. Each shoe represents a story, a life altered by systemic violence and neglect. The varying conditions of the shoes symbolize the diversity of these lived experiences. Some women emerge resilient, others are deeply fractured, yet every pair expresses the ongoing struggle for voice and agency in spaces that often aim to silence them. By presenting pumps, shoes typically associated with femininity and progress, I challenge viewers to confront the reality of being trapped, both physically and emotionally.

This installation is both a memorial and a call to action. It asks us to break the silence that surrounds sexual violence, particularly in spaces where it is most easily dismissed or ignored. It invites reflection on the stories of those affected and urges us to imagine a future in which every woman can walk freely, without fear.

Through Walk a Mile, I hope to open a space for critical dialogue about the realities women face in industrial environments and the urgent need for change. My hope is that this work serves as a step toward greater awareness, compassion, and justice.
